It was a week day like any other at Dr. Dorota Pearson's San Marcos, California veterinary center. Folks in bright scrubs moved briskly yet with a relaxed confidence around the clinic, silently satisfied with their lot of working within close-quarters of animals each day.
However, there was an added excitement on this warm, electric 23rd day of June, 2009. Dr. Pearson and her staff were preparing to deliver two Dachshund puppies via c-section from a legendary father who passed more than 25 years ago! Ch. Barbaradox Andi was born in 1978, and during his short canine life on this planet, he was awarded the covenanted Best of Variety in 1984 by the Dachshund Club of America National Specialty under Judge Sherrill Snyder. Luckily, Andi had a smart owner, Barbara Haisch, who had the foresight to freeze his semen for the benefit of the breed's future. After Barbara's passing, the semen, stored at Canine Cryobank, transferred ownership to Jane Watkins, a well-known Dachshund breeder and judge, much like Barbara was. Two months before the anticipated June birth, Polly Flemmings Fourstar Basic Black was artificially inseminated with Andi's semen at Dr. Pearson's office. And on June 23, 2009 a gorgeous, healthy male pup named Calvin was delivered, along with his handsome sister, Rivers.

This is so amazing - I hope more owners will do this so that in future generations when it is more difficult to find better breeding options because the pool has dried up maybe they will look to the cryo bank for those older better options from yesterday...Karen
